Understanding Harmony Analysis

How DailyWorship analyzes the chords and harmony in your songs

Last updated: January 20, 2026

DailyWorship uses AI to analyze the musical structure of every song.

What Is Harmony Analysis?#

When a song is generated, our AI examines:

  • The key (e.g., G major, D minor)
  • The chord progression
  • Chord changes and timing
  • Song structure and sections
  • Harmonic complexity

Where to Find It#

  1. Open any song in your library
  2. Look for Details or Analysis
  3. View the harmony breakdown

Analysis Components#

Key Detection#

The key your song is in:

  • Major or minor
  • Confidence level
  • Any modulations (key changes)

Chord Timeline#

A visual display of:

  • Each chord in the song
  • When chords change
  • Duration of each chord

Chord Progression#

The sequence of chords:

  • Example: I - V - vi - IV
  • Shows the "shape" of the song
  • Helps understand the musical flow

Structure Segmentation#

Where sections begin and end:

  • Intro
  • Verses
  • Choruses
  • Bridge
  • Outro

Complexity Score#

How harmonically complex the song is:

  • Simple (mostly I, IV, V chords)
  • Moderate (includes ii, vi, some 7ths)
  • Complex (extended chords, modulations)

Roman Numeral Analysis (Advanced)#

For music theory enthusiasts:

  • I — The root chord (tonic)
  • IV — The fourth degree (subdominant)
  • V — The fifth degree (dominant)
  • vi — The relative minor

This shows how chords relate to each other regardless of key.

Practical Uses#

For Worship Leaders#

  • Quickly understand a song's structure
  • Identify good transition points
  • Plan arrangements and dynamics

For Musicians#

  • Learn the chord changes
  • Understand why certain chords work
  • Improve musical knowledge

For Transposition#

  • See the Roman numerals to transpose mentally
  • Understand the harmonic function, not just the chord name
