Understanding copyright for AI-generated worship music
This page explains who owns what when you create music with DailyWorship and how copyright applies to AI-generated content. It is general information, not legal advice — for a specific situation, consult a copyright lawyer in your jurisdiction.
What You Own#
You own the lyrics, prompts, titles, settings, and configurations you create. For the music Output itself, your rights depend on your tier and are set out in Rights & Licensing: paid tiers receive an assignment of our rights in Output; free tiers receive a non-commercial license.
Copyrightability of AI-Generated Content#
The copyright status of AI-generated work is unsettled and varies by country:
- In the United States, copyright requires human authorship. The U.S. Copyright Office has stated that prompts alone do not make you the author of the Output; protection may extend only to the parts reflecting meaningful human creative control (for example, original lyrics you wrote or significant creative arrangement).
- Other jurisdictions take different approaches, and the law is actively developing.
So while we assign you whatever rights we hold in your Output (on paid tiers), we cannot guarantee that any copyright exists in, or can be registered for, purely AI-generated Output. If registration matters to you, talk to a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
What We Provide#
We license our AI technology to you for music creation; you do not own the models, algorithms, or infrastructure. We provide the generation service, storage and hosting, and processing and delivery.
Respecting Others' Copyright and Likeness#
- Never try to recreate, cover, or closely imitate copyrighted songs, lyrics, melodies, arrangements, or recordings.
- Don't reproduce others' lyrics or reference specific songs to copy them.
- Don't mimic a specific artist's or person's voice or likeness without consent (see Content Guidelines).
Infringement may result in content removal, account termination, and legal consequences.
Takedowns and Counter-Notices#
We honor valid copyright takedown requests and provide a counter-notice process. Step-by-step instructions, what to include, our response timeline, and our repeat-infringer policy are in Copyright Information. Notices may be sent to copyright@dailyworship.net.
Attribution#
Attribution is not legally required, but when sharing publicly you may note that music was created with DailyWorship. No attribution is required for use in church services.
